Childminder Training: Safeguarding Children and Thresholds

Event code EYC 23/035
Event description This course enables childminders and their supporting staff to gain and/or refresh their knowledge and skills required to carry out their statutory safeguarding responsibilities as highlighted within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’.

This course will assist delegates in understanding the local Kent Integrated Front Door process alongside creating a safer culture. The course uses a variety of scenarios and discussions to help delegates put learning into practice and is delivered by experienced trainers who have a sound knowledge of social work and childminding practice.

This session will run as an interactive Zoom session. Delegates will be sent the link no later than 24 hours before the start date. Please ensure you are able to access Zoom at least 1 hour prior to the session. Please note that these are not recorded and therefore not available to watch at a later date and delegates need to attend as a live session.

If you have not used Zoom before and require helpful tips, we recommend having a look at these:

How to join a Zoom meeting for delegates

Join a test meeting to familiarise yourself

Participants who are unable to install Zoom can join our training using the Zoom web client on their desktop web browser. The Join from your browser link will appear after the user clicks on the link to join the meeting.
Training objectives - To enable delegates to understand the safeguarding responsibilities for childminders and develop knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance
- To help participants recognise indicators of abuse and neglect with the children they work with and know what action they need to take
- To raise awareness of a range of current safeguarding priorities and safeguarding issues, including what makes children and childminders vulnerable
- Explore how to identify and create a 'safer culture', including how to advise supporting staff of their responsibilities
- To ensure delegates know how to respond effectively to concerns about children in line with the Kent safeguarding children procedures (including the consultation and Integrated Front Door process), so delegates have the confidence to challenge, refer and escalate
- Know what is likely to happen following a request for support and understand what role they have to play within multi-agency working.
