I CAN Talk Boost KS1

Event code EYC 21/191
Event description Talk Boost KS1 is a targeted and evidence-based intervention programme, which supports children with language delay in Reception and Key Stage One (KS1) to make progress with their language and communication skills. The programme is delivered in primary schools by classroom teachers and assistants. Evidence has shown that the programme can accelerate children’s progress in language and communication by up to 18 months after a ten week intervention. This intervention is an excellent and well evidenced use of Pupil Premium funding.

The intervention is designed to improve the language and communication skills of 4 to 7 year olds. It comprises three 30–40 minute group sessions a week, delivered over a 10-week period by a trained teaching assistant. In addition to this the class teacher will run a weekly whole-class activity and there are activities that can be practiced at home.

The training course is designed for training pairs, consisting of the class teacher and teaching assistant.
Schools can send training pairs for each year group (YR, 1 & 2). This course is delivered by Equality and Inclusion advisers who are also ICAN licensees and qualified teachers.

This session will run as an interactive Zoom session and is designed to be accessed by individual participants, each with a suitable device with audio and video functions, although it is possible for 2-3 participants to share a laptop for the purposes of the training if necessary. Delegates will be sent the link no later than 24 hours before the start date. Please ensure you are able to access Zoom at least 1 hour prior to the session. Please note that these are not recorded and therefore not available to watch at a later date and delegates need to attend as a live session.

If you have not used Zoom before and require helpful tips, we recommend having a look at these:

Precourse information:
This section includes important information - please read carefully:
Each school attending the training MUST purchase an exciting and comprehensive toolkit per year group. The 'one off' cost of the Talk Boost KS1 Bundle' is £500.

If you have already purchased the ICAN Talk Boost KS1 resources, you can book without the need for purchasing resources. It will be helpful if delegates have their resources with them for the online training, but this is not essential.
