I CAN Early Talk Boost

Event code EYC 21/190
Event description I CAN Early Talk Boost is a pre-school language intervention designed for children aged 3-4 years who have delayed language development. The intervention helps to boost their language skills, helping to narrow achievement gaps between them and their peers (please see below for important information about the resources required to deliver this intervention).

Findings show that, after taking part in Early Talk Boost, children make, on average, 6 months progress after a nine week intervention. This is twice the amount of progress than children not having the intervention.

This is free to Kent PVI Settings.

This online Zoom training course is designed for early years practitioners who will be delivering the intervention in early years settings, and is delivered by qualified I CAN Licensees.

This session will run as an interactive Zoom session. Delegates will be sent the link no later than 24 hours before the start date. Please ensure you are able to access Zoom at least 1 hour prior to the session. Please note that these are not recorded and therefore not available to watch at a later date and delegates need to attend as a live session.

If you have not used Zoom before and require helpful tips, we recommend having a look at these:

Participants who are unable to install Zoom can join our training using the Zoom web client on their desktop web browser. The Join from your browser link will appear after the user clicks on the link to join the meeting.

Pre-course information:
This section includes important information - please read carefully.
Each setting attending the training MUST access an exciting and comprehensive toolkit which includes all the materials and resources required to successfully deliver this intervention. The cost of the toolkit is included in this COMF funded course.

This training is available for two staff members from each setting to attend.

As this is an intervention programme, it is not possible to deliver the intervention without the resources.

Following confirmation of your place you will be contacted by email with details of how to order your resources. Please ensure you complete the specific ICAN order form as soon as possible to ensure you have them ahead of your course. Only one resource toolkit is required, and funded, per setting.

Once you have accessed your resources, you MUST attend the training course.

Please also note, this course is Kent funded, however, you will be charged for non-attendance.

Training objectives To develop participants:
• Understanding of the Early Talk Boost activities and confidence in delivering the intervention
• Knowledge of how to identify children who will benefit from Early Talk Boost and monitor their progress
• Understanding of working with parents to support their child's communication and language development
