Kent Pre-Registration Course - Childminder (West)

Event description This is a bespoke course written specifically for individuals wishing to become an Ofsted registered childminder in Kent. This is a comprehensive package that, together with separate paediatric first aid training, covers all aspects of setting up and running a successful childminding business.

It is a blended course meaning students benefit from both eLearning and face-to-face tutor facilitated learning. You must be able to complete the eLearning within the stated times, (or additional costs may apply), and attend both face-to-face dates to complete the full course and obtain your certificate needed for your Ofsted registration visit.

The course consists of:

eLearning to be completed before Day 1 - to be completed between 1st November and 15th November 2019:

Introduction to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for prospective Childminders (eLearning):
• This introduces you to the EYFS is in an easy to follow format, familiarising you with the statutory requirements in bitesize sections.
At the end of the Introduction to the EYFS eLearning you will download a quiz which you must complete and bring with you to Day 1 of face-to-face training as part of a group activity.

Safeguarding for Childminders (eLearning):
• Comprehensive information on safeguarding children, including Kent’s procedures for reporting.

Day 1 face-to-face – 16th November 2019 (Saturday)

Classroom tasks linked to completed eLearning:
• Assess and plan for a child based on different observations.
• Explore signs and symptoms of abuse and review scenarios with possible links to safeguarding.

Managing Children’s behaviour (face-to-face):
• Supports you in effectively and positively managing children’s behaviour.

Inclusion (face-to-face):
• Enables you to understand and embed inclusive practices from day one of your childminding career.

PLEASE PRINT AND BRING YOUR ELEARNING CERTIFICATES TO DAY 1. You should also bring with you copies of Development Matters and Early Years Outcomes - these are downloadable from the Introduction to the EYFS for prospective childminders eLearning course - and pens and paper for taking notes.

eLearning to be completed before Day 2- to be completed between 18th November and 29th November:

Special Educational Needs/Disability (SEND) (eLearning):
• Explores the duties placed on you as an early years provider and introduces Kent’s unique Best Practice Guidance document.

Information and Record Keeping (e-Learning):
• Looks at the legal requirements of record keeping, and the statutory obligations placed on you by the EYFS.

Day 2 face-to-face – 30th November 2019 (Saturday)

Keeping Children Safe and Healthy (face-to-face):
• Comprehensively covers all aspects of safety and health you need to know before your registration, enabling you to create an environment in which children will flourish.

Business Side (face-to-face):
• Considers market forces and how to price your service to ensure you develop a thriving and long-term sustainable business.
